Ghacem presented a letter for 1,700 bags of cement which amounts to over 85,000 Ghana cedis as its donation to support the fund in the rebuilding exercise. Mr Benny Fiifi Ashun, the Marketing and Public Relations Manager who made the presentation on behalf of the company said

‘‘Ghacem Cement Foundation has been in the business of supporting the construction of schools and hospitals with bags of cement all over the country since 2002. And so it is not out of place to donate two trucks of cement for the rebuilding of the Appiatse community which will definitely have schools and hospitals. Per our line of duty and through the Ghacem Cement Foundation, we feel compelled to also send in this token donation‘‘.

He was accompanied by the Public Relations Officer Nana Abena Kufuor.

It will be recalled that Appiatse, a mining community in the Western region where Ghacem has its second factory came to a standstill on the 21st of January 2022. 13 people died and over 500 houses were burnt to the ground when a vehicle carrying explosives for mining collided with a motorcycle. This brought the community and its neighboring towns to their knees.

Benny also took the opportunity to announce that the Ghacem Foundation is always ready to support any project which seeks to rehabilitate schools or hospitals with a kind cement donation on request through applications addressed to the Chairperson Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI a long standing board member of Ghacem and the Omanhene of Assin Kushea in the Owirenkyi Kingdom.

In her remark, the Chairperson of the Appiatse Support Fund Committee, Rev. Dr. Joyce Roselind Aryee expressed her gratitude to Ghacem Ltd for its kind donations. She promised to ensure that the reconstruction committee who will be the actual users of the cement are put in the know of Ghacem‘s donation. She intimated that she is impressed with Ghana’s response to the Appiatse disaster but further called for more support from all and sundry.
